The Stone Menace

At first glance, the garden would seem like a tranquil place, a sanctuary, or even a paradise. The bright glow of the moon and the garden lights all cast their brightness on the garden, displaying its beauty for all to see. But nothing could be farther from the truth. As lovely as the garden may look, it is actually a home, a nest for monsters.

Garden gnomes watched the basket being lowered down to the ground. They hid in their artificial, concrete mushrooms. They knew that the Chimera is especially attracted to toys from the house. It has a taste for their smooth, plastic skin. And true enough, there was a low growl coming from the bushes. The remaining gnomes scampered into whatever structure they may find; pots, vases, gopher dens, tree-holes and empty cups.

The Chimera was coming. Like a predator, waiting for its prey to come close...

Midnight...
The Garden...

Without waiting for the basket to touch the ground, Mikoto leapt from it, and landed safely on her feet. She was back again... in the garden. The smell of grass and soil -- oh how she didn't miss it at all. She arrived just in time to see the garden gnomes running away from some unseen foe.

"It's near... Psst, Doll, Knight! Don't make unnecessary noises..." Mikoto whispered to the two toys in the basket. Gripping the pistol sword's handle tight, Mikoto slowly walked forward.

She could swear the sense of dread in the air was strong enough to rub the paint on her off. Mikoto glanced left and right. There was no sign of the Chimera, only the dazzling beauty of the garden at night. But even in all of its splendor, the garden felt like a ticking time bomb to Mikoto.

"If we could strike it preemptively, we might have the advantage..." Mikoto suggested to Javier and Aisha.

Jon’s moved slowly through the glass, keeping a steady pace but making sure to keep absolutely silent. Mud was smeared all over his white storm trooper suit, twigs and small leaves were lashed to him with makeshift grass rope.
He had been hiding out in the backyard for 3 days, lying as low as he could go. The Gnomes had no idea he was there and the dangerous ‘monsters’ of this yard only had a faint idea he was around.

Stealth was really something you had to work at. When your life was in danger Jon learned that you could do just about anything to survive, however stealth was much harder when you were afraid. Your breathing picked up, you shook and the adrenaline made it almost impossible to stay still.
Hunters relied on fear to find their pray. The creatures in the backyard were no different than the toys that had hunted him in the dump not too long ago. Only these creatures lacked the numbers and motivations the dump toys had.

This allowed Jon to hide from them, spy on them or in the case of the larger monster, stay out of sight. That cat-like beast was the only real threat he had met while in the back yard, everything else had been easy to dispatch or hide from, but not the Chimera.
It was the biggest hindrance to his plan of entering the house unnoticed. Just yesterday he had discovered the window to the basement and had been in the process of wedging it open when the creature spotted him.

It chased him for a straight hour before he was forced to hide in a pile of dog poop that he been dropped in the garden by a stray puppy. Jon had to say it was not pleasant but much better then dying.

Now he was sick sitting around and waiting. Armed with his laser rifle he crept through the grass in complete silence. His plan had been to wait by the Gnome village for the creature to attack. However as he approached Jon heard voices. Faint ones, but in the silent moon-lite knight they might as well have been screaming instead of whispering.

Looking down the scope of his laser rifle he saw three odd looking toys riding down in a basket from the second floor. “What are those idiots doing?” Jon thought to himself as he heard the faint growl of the Chimera. It was close, practically on top of him, but it wasn’t interested in him. No. It was going for the Basket Lunch that had been delivered down to him all neat and well dressed.

Jon grimaced behind his grass tied, mud (or rather poop smeared) helmet. “The odds aren’t good. Those three are around action figure/doll size so they might have the advantage in terms of speed and numbers, but that over ground dollar store lawn ornament has the element of surprise...” It didn’t come off as too much of a stretch thinking the Chimera was strong.

It seemed unlikely that the three could beat the monster, even if he helped. However, if he bided his time then he could take the basket back up to the house while they were distracting the Chimera. Jon was thinking of going with the plan before spying a skirted doll in the basket, cursing out what appeared to be a knight figure.

His eyes widened “She looks like…No. She’s not Haruhi…” Jon closed his eyes, taking a few moments to clear his thoughts, but seeing the female figure had left its mark. He couldn’t walk away after seeing her. If it had been a male toll or a stuffed animal then maybe he would have been able to stomach stealing the basket. Not a female figure though.

“I’ll wait for the creature to strike and attack it. Maybe if I ruin its surprise attack then the others might have a chance.” Jon thought to himself as he readied his rifle, keeping his eyes and ears peeled for the Chimera’s strike as he lay in the grass, the survivor of the dump staying to fight in spite of the odds.

Midnight...
The Garden...

(actually, Crosswire40, you can say you met the Chimera but in this situation you just can't say it's on top of you, not that it is, yet. But I'll ride along with you this time... )



The night was getting deeper. The faint growling from the darkness, grew deeper, louder.... closer. The creeping shadow grew bigger. It was the Chimera, flattening the lawn grass as it crawled towards the basket. Its eyes, glowing like cinders, gaze fixed on its prey. It passed the Storm Trooper, not noticing it at all. Something else... or rather, SOMEONE else attracted its attention.

Contrary to what the toys in the room believed in, the Chimera was far from a mindless beast. It was driven both by instinct, and a sense of duty. All of the toys that it chewed to death were those who were trying to get out of the house. Yes, it was a guardian.

A guardian of stone, a creature right from the depths of nightmares. A living depiction of hell.

The Chimera paused in its tracks. It snarled upon seeing Mikoto on the ground. The beast emerged from the darkness, and stood there right in front of the trio of new toys. Here came the surprise.

"More foolish toys! You shall perish at my fangs!" the Chimera's Lion head spoke. The Goat head giggled eerily, while the Snake head hissed at Mikoto.

Midnight...
The Garden...

Javier was hesitant to go down there, but Mikoto was already on the ground. He didn't want to lose face. Reluctantly, Javier climbed out of the basket as soon as it landed. He slowly followed Mikoto, afraid to go to the front.

"I...I-uh, I shall watch your back, my l..la...lady..." Javier told Mikoto, voice shaking in fear. Mortal fear took hold of the knight. Javier drew his sword out. "Perhaps it is not wise to tread any further, I prefer to fight in bright areas where the enemy can witness the gleam of my battle armor..." Javier tried coughing a lousy excuse.

Finally, the monster appeared, and Javier fell on his butt after shrieking like a girl. "EEEK!" Realizing how embarrassing it was, Javier quickly picked his sword up and summoned false courage. The monster spoke, and Javier was the first to reply.

"If you require an opponent, I will fight you. If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack me. But can't we just be... friends?" Javier offered the Chimera a truce.

RULES: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

I. POSITIONING RULES:
-Please select ANY position on the MAP. The Red Square indicates the Chimera on J-2.
-You cannot occupy spaces occupied by other characters.
-State your Stats and Attacks as indicated in your Approved Profiles. This is known as the SET-UP PHASE. This is usually accompanied by some short RP or conversation.
-Wait until all participants have posted.
-Admin will roll the turn dice to determine which team color moves. In this mission all of you shall be BLUE.

II. BATTLE RULES
-You may move in any direction as your Speed stat provides.
-You can also attack in any direction, Horizontal, Vertical or Diagonal as long as your attack range permits you to do so.
-Melee attacks are those with a range of one, and those with ranges greater than one, use the ranged attack dice. It is okay not to optimize the range of your ranged attacks, but you cannot exceed its limit. (ex, just using 3 our of 4 range)
-PHASE includes all the turns of team members. Once everyone has made an attack, or healed, or moved, the PHASE ends and it becomes the ENEMY phase.
-You may move and attack on your turn and PHASE only.
-If you are going to recover some HP, use the RECOVERY dice. +3 HP if successful. Recovery of HP is only available in YOUR own Turn. If it is a "SUCCESS", you would recover +3 HP. If it is "FAIL", you don't get anything, and your turn ends.
-If you will be using RECOVERY, you must forfeit attacking and moving in your turn.
-During the Enemy's turn, if it hits you with an attack, you may roll the DEFEND Dice. If it rolls a "SUCCESS", the enemy's attack will be divided by 2. If it is a "FAIL", you take the damage as indicated. Either way, attempting to Defend consumes your defense stat by 1. When the defense stat is consumed, you will no longer be able to attempt a DEFEND in battle.
-You cannot revive fallen players in battle.
-ESCAPE is usually possible by going to the corner of the MAP (any of the 4 corners) and RPing that you've escaped. HOWEVER IN THIS PARTICULAR BATTLE, ESCAPE IS IMPOSSIBLE.

III. CONDITIONS
-If the Chimera is defeated, all your HP will be restored, and fallen players revived.
-In the case that the Chimera defeats all of you, you will not be destroyed, but you will be imprisoned in a mini Zen temple where you will await a rescue party to come and get you.

IV. THE ENEMY
CHIMERA
-A stone statue placed in the garden in the early 60s. It is huge and fierce, and prowls the lawn in search of toys looking for a way out. It is the guardian of the lawn, and has claimed the lives of numerous toys.

"All bark and no bite. A disappointment , sadly" Aisha says, as she hops out of the basket in a dignified manner, just as a bellowing roar echoed through the garden, signaling the time for them to bring up the arms and potentially put their lives on the line for the benefit of the toys.

the thought excites her.

She pulls out the toy sword she has taken from the tavern, giving it a last few test swings before taking up a stance akin to a trained swordsman "Do not worry about me, I may not look like it, but I'm not exactly weak" She says, her demure changing as they head out to face the beast.

"Now, shall we dance to our deaths?"

"There's no need to prolong the inevitable...Hmph!" Mikoto wittily commented on the impending battle. The Chimera, at least the lion head, sounded as if it was sure about the outcome of the fight. Mikoto placed her Pistol Sword in front of her and bent her knees slightly. She was ready to attack and be attacked.

"The funny thing about monsters like you... the bigger you are, the harder you fall. I wish it didn't have to come to this. To be honest, I'm not sure if we'll get out alive either. I'm really sorry for dragging these other toys into the mess. But there's a kid out there who's waiting for me. I won't back down!" Boldly, Mikoto charged forward to meet the beast's fangs.

"You're right. This is it. No running now... just fight our way through this bastard of a creature!" Javier finally said, getting his act together. In a rare display of bravery, Javier stood up straight, and slowly drew out his sword, the "Vindication". He wasn't gonna let Aisha and Mikoto steal the show. As far as he's concerned, he's the only guy on the field, and he must not lose face. Javier chanted his battle creed, as the blade slowly slid out of the scabbard...


Javier's plastic sword shone in the moonlight, as if it was a real sword thanks to its chrome paint. The White Hawk raised up his blade in the air and then, rushed to Mikoto's side. Javier felt the heat of battle surrounding him...

Jon remained where he was, tucked away in the grass, his weapon aimed at the crimson eyed beast. He could hear the sounds of blades being unsheathed and swung. “These toys aren’t going down without a fight. I'm glad. I’d hate for this to be my last battle…”

The moon caught the lens of his laser rifle’s scope, causing it to glint faintly in the moon light as he raised it up, aiming at the Chimera, ready to battle with evil once again.

“Let’s see if those three heads of yours are better than four…” Jon muttered to himself in an almost action movie faction, reflecting his manufacturer as his finger resting on the trigger anxious for the Chimera to make its move.

The Chimera reared all of its three ugly heads. The beast's gigantic paws ripped the ground, as it charged in mad, unrelenting fury. The Lion roared, it's ungodly sound tearing across the silence of the night, while the Goat cheered on with its demonic laughter. The snake wiggled and slithered about, licking the air that was filled with the scent of the toys.

LION HEAD:

Having declared his morale-raising words, Javier leapt into the air like a bird of prey, landing on his feet just a few inches away from the blasted Chimera.

"Thou art nothing but a large ham! Your words, you brag like there is no tomorrow! But soon thou shall taste your own undoing! This gleaming blade of mine, shall cut off all three of your repulsive heads!" Javier added. He swung his blade to the right, cleanly slicing off a few stalks of grass.

"See that, even the grass bows down to me! Look at the power of my sword, you malformed demon! My Vindication has just sliced off 3 blades of grass in one swing! Thou shalt be terrified at my power!!!" Javier came up with arrogance of his own.

"Come on fellows! We have to be straightforward in this! You attack either the goat or the snake heads. I'll try to distract the lion!" Mikoto ran at full speed, raised her blade high into the air.

"Javier it is obviously clear that you're the large ham around here. Just shut up and let your sword do the talking!" Mikoto clung onto the Chimera and prepared to strike...

The Chimera roared in agony as Mikoto sliced off its ear in one powerful stroke. The beast staggered but soon it was able to get back on its paws. The Chimera screamed in pain, roaring and thrashing its head, soaring tumbling free-wheeling into the endless diamond sky.

"These guys seem set to piss it off. I hope they can draw the aggro, because sure as hell can't..."

John crawled forward a little, moving into a better position to fire. The Chimera was focusing on the Knight and the Skirted One who had gone straight into melee.

He raised his laser rifle and shouldered it, his not so silent movements were drowned out by the Chimera's scream and the clashing of plastic on metal. Looking through the sight he saw that the Chimera's other heads seemed to be supporting the main head.

Looking through the scope he lined up with the goat head and fired a single shot, the red laser burst flying through the midnight garden air towards the three headed guardian.

Reaction to "Aisha" and Jon-Stewart's attacks:

"Oooooompha!" growled the Lion Head as parts of his mane were severed off by Mikoto's attack. The Chimera had grossly underestimated the fighting abilities of these toys, for although they had plastic weapons, they were able to carve their attacks onto the solid rock that built up the Chimera's body.

The beast grew angrier as the dark skies above them started to rumble, Bit by bit, raindrops started to fall on the chaotic garden. In mere seconds, the light drizzle has turned into a torrential rainstorm.

"Hahahaaahahahahahasssss.... After we're through with you, the rain shall sink your corpses into the buddy soil!" hissed the Snake Head. It coiled its serpentine form around the Lion's body to try and deflect the Storm-Trooper and the Vocaloid's attacks.
